Synechosunshine
We are an interdisciplinary group from Valencia composed by biotechnology, biology, marine science and engineering students from three different universities. We're actually working in a light producing cyanobacteria system.
Our objective is to create an autosufficient biolamp, which will turn on during night without any other input than the absence of light. For that, we are going to modify the cyanobacteria Synechococcus elongatus sp 7942 and the green algae Chlamydomonas reinhardtii placing genes of the lux/luc operon from Vibrio fischeri under the control of different light-regulated promoters, such as psbAI.
Efforts will be done to improve actual light emission intensity limitations to achieve a biological platform for further industrial research.
