Week 1
Having finished our bootcamp, we started working in our lab space in Weill Hall. This week, we began our work to construct our salicylate reporter plasmids using a sensing region including the transcriptional activator nahR. We also continued our work with the Gibson mutagenesis of the nah operon (which degrades naphthalene to salicylate) by attempting to confirm successful construction. We also began our adventure in attempting to transform into Shewanella via electroporation. Daily DetailsWeek 2
It has been said that astronomy is a humbling and character-building experience. There is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world. To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another, and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we've ever known. Daily DetailsWeek 3
