Our city & Our University
As another name "egret island", the city is located on a green hilly island. Egret, a kind of precious bird, is the most popular symbolic animal in the city. It has the distinction of being one of the most reputed destinations worthy visiting in China. The local culture is full of historical impression and adventurous spirit, and it is also famous for being the hometown of the overseas. Meanwhile, ancient tradition and virtues is still respected here.
The Xiamen University is established by the well-known patriotic overseas Chinese entrepreneur Chen Jiageng in 1921, educates more than 40,000 students per year now. It is one of the earliest universities in China which has graduate courses and has being calling "Strength of South" since it had been born. It also has the reputation of the most beautiful campus in China.
