Kanamycin

About

Kanamycin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic that interacts with the 30S subunit of prokayotic ribosomes inducing mistranslations thus inhibiting translocation during protein synthesis.[1]

Stock

  1. Mix:
    • 3 g kanamycin (75 mg/mL)
    • ad. 40 mL dist. water
  2. sterile filtration
  3. aliquot in 1 mL stocks and store at -20°C

Stability

  • Kanamycin is one of the few autoclavable antibiotics
  • Culture plates can be stored for about 2-3 month at 4°C (as a batch in a bag or individually sealed with Parafilm)
