The Netherlands Consortium for Systems Biology (NCSB) implements systems biology as a powerful scientific approach in three major Dutch biological research areas: biomedical research, agricultural biotechnology and microbial biotechnology. The consortium develops modelling and systems analysis tools and approaches. It implements systems biology in the Genomics Centres and Top Institutes by embedding ‘systems biology units’ in a number of their research groups. With this strategy, NCSB creates a unique synergy between the strong and economically important biomedical and biotechnological research fields in the Netherlands

NCSB is supported by the Netherlands Genomics Initiative and forms part of its Enabling Technologies cluster.

The study of the molecular basis of life is a rapidly developing and multidisciplinary field of research. The Netherlands Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (NVBMB) was established in 1927 and currently lists about 1200 members. The society represents students and professionals working in the area of biochemistry and molecular biology and its members are from universities, institutes and industry. The society aims to stimulate the field of biochemistry and molecular biology at a high professional level. It promotes co-operation and acts as a forum to share know-how and expertise. The main instruments of the society are symposia, lectures, prizes and travel grants.
