Overall project
Our aim is the expression of zebrafish (Danio rerio) membrane progestin receptor (mPR) in yeast to reliably measure steroid concentrations in water by inducing bioluminiscence.
The problem: Effects of hormones on fish developement
In the last years higher and higher concentrations of syntethic hormones have been measured in most of US rivers, disturbing not only gonad differentiation of juvenile fish, but also causing the developement of female sex tissue in male fish. The resulting high number of female fish decreases population size dramatically.
