Coomassie stain

About

Coomassie Brilliant Blue is the name of a two component triphenylmethane dye commonly used for staining proteins in SDS page.

Ingredients

Mix together the following contents under a fume hood:

  • 0.5L Methanol
  • 70mL Acetic Acid
  • 430mL dH2O
  • 1g Brilliant Blue

Application

  • SDS page gel is placed in a small tub and covered in stain
  • Destaining is accomplished with a mix of methanol and acetic acid
