About

Chloramphenicol is a bacteriostatic antibiotic that specifically binds resudies in the 50S ribosomal subunit, preventing peptide bond formation.[1]

Stock

  1. Mix:
    • 1 g chloramphenicol (25 mg/mL)
    • ad. 40 mL ethanol
  2. aliqout in 1 mL stocks and store at -20°C

Stability

  • Chloramphenicol is not autoclavable, it has to be added before pouring plates (keep in mind that the agar is not too hot when adding it)
