Trento (traditional English: Trent; Italian: Trento, pronounced [ˈtrɛnto] or [ˈtrento]; local dialects: Trènt; German: Trient) is an Italian city located in the autonomous region of Trentino-Alto Adige at the border with Austria. The city is located in the beautiful valley of the Adige river and it I surrounded by mountains. Trento represents a crossroads for the contrasting cultures of Italy and northern Europe. For centuries the city was the strategic gateway to the north. The city contains a picturesque Medieval and Renaissance historic centre, with ancient buildings such as Trento Cathedral and the Castello del Buonconsiglio.
