Overview
Motivation
When genetically modified crops are used in food production a multitude of issues arise, ranging from contamination of unmodified species to increased use of agrochemicals (Benbrook 2009[http://civileats.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/13Years20091112.pdf]).
In contrast, when the microorganisms utilized in food production are genetically modified instead of the crops, most of the problems can be alleviated.
