Project over view

A love story contains several processes. Two people fall in love and their love burning wildly. However, no forever exists in the world, in most occasions, love will eventually burn to only a pile of ashes of the last remaining wind drift away. In our project, we have recreated the story of "Romeo & Juliet" by Shakespeare vividly by two kinds of Escherichia coli. We aim to generate a circuit involving regulatory mechanism of positive feedback rather than commonly-used negative feedback to control the fate of E.coli by signaling between two types of E.coli. Besides, Rose represents love. We will challenge to be the first iGEM group ever to synthesize PHA (a kind of bio-plastics) from glucose using the whole PHA gene sequence to represent rose.

"Romeo and Juliette" is the dramas by dramatist William Shakespeare of England. The stage is city Verona, Italy in the 14th century.Romeo met Juliette. Two persons fall to love instantly. In this project, instead of applying general regulatory mechanism of negative feedback, we will generate a circuit including positive feedback to control the fate of E.coli by signaling between them.we will recreate the love story of "Romeo&Juliette". see more

Organic synthesis of PHA

There is what of the famous scene of "Romeo and Juliette"

ROMEO: Shall I hear more, or shall I speak at this?
JULIET: 'Tis but thy name that is my enemy; Thou art thyself, though not a Montague. What's Montague? it is nor hand, nor foot, Nor arm, nor face, nor any other part Belonging to a man. O, be some other name! What's in a name? that which we call a rose By any other name would smell as sweet.
PHA is a kind of bio-plastic produced by microbes.It's standard extract can be got after being dissolved in chloroform. In this project, we will recreate the rose come out in the lines of the famous drama'Romeo and Juliet'by the synthesis of PHA. PHA can be detected by Nile Red reagent by being dyed red, which looks exactly like rose. see more
