Yale's iGEM team isolated an antifreeze protein out of it last year and showed that it confers survivability to cells at really cold temperatures (down to -20ºC). We are seeing whether cells can thrive and grow with the help of this protein at cold temperatures.

We are attempting to upregulate a pathway that produces betaine, a nutrient that prevents the aggregation of proteins and should help contribute to cold resistance.
