WEEK TEN 20th-24th August 2012 Last Friday was the Google Campus meetup for all UK iGEM teams – a great success! The talks were great (our three speakers were dazzling, I thought) the teams all had brilliant ideas. Our networking with other teams was put to the test as we exhanged details and business cards with several other teams. The opportunity to both give feedback to the other teams and recieve their feedback on ours was very insightful. And so the design of our final presentation for the jamboree in Amsterdam begins... This week we’re still trying to PCR wbbC out of the E. coli genome. It hasn’t worked, but Christine assures us sometimes one in a million dilutions are needed with DMSO to get the genomic DNA in the PCR-ing mood. We will prevail! Met with various business members including DSTL to discuss the impact our project would have on their company if our idea proceeded into the future. The next two weeks will be a mad scramble to get everything done and on the wiki before The Big Freeze. It's going to be tense. All hands will be on deck: we're dragging the physicists into the lab en masse whether they like it or not. |
