Team:LMU-Munich/Team
The LMU-Munich team is exuberantly happy about the great success at the World Championship Jamboree in Boston. Our project Beadzillus finished 4th and won the prize for the "Best Wiki" (with Slovenia) and "Best New Application Project".

Who we are
Our iGEM team is a group of seven students and three advisors.
The majority of us is studying biology, two of us are bachelor and five are master students... and Julia, she is studying biochemistry in her masters program. Together with Jara she is now participating for the third time in the iGEM competition. They have the know-how and calmness of two experienced iGEM members. Especially Jara is known as our walking library. If she is not helping out, she is working on the vectors of the BacillusBioBrickBox. The rest of us are enjoying all the different aspects and work of an iGEM project for the first time; and the stress in the lab. Only Simon can often escape from it, as he is dealing with topics like collaborations, website, human practise, sponsors and and and. But as we are a group of only nine people there is no graph, no abstract, not even one presentation slide not being discussed enthusiastically and no work not being divided. The design and presentation of the story is being developed and controlled by Franzi, Jenny and Tamara. In the lab they are as well working together on the Sporobeads. At this, Franzi and Tamara are fusing different proteins to the spore crust, while Jenny and Julia are inhibiting the germination (GerminationSTOP). Korinna is monitoring the lab duties and safety and is also known as the data generator. The sheer amount of data derived from her work and evaluation of all our promoters is the heart of our well evaluated BacillusBioBrickBox, which was assisted to some extend by Jara.
All of us are working closely together with our three advisors, Prof. Thorsten Mascher, Dr. Tina Wecke and Dr. Georg Fritz. Prof. Thorsten Mascher is not only offering us a place in his lab, but a lot of support and input on all parts of the project too. Tina is the one to go to for trouble shooting and strategy planning and Georg is the one advising us how to best evaluate parts and how to model.
We have a lot of fun working together on Beadzillus!
Where we are from
We are from Munich, the world's largest village ;-)
Munich is in Bavaria, known for it's beer (in Munich especially the Oktoberfest) and it's dialect. Though many Munich natives don't have a dialect, you will always find many Munichs drinking beer in one of the many beergardens on a sunny day.
Munich has two universities, the Ludwig-Maximilians-University (LMU, our team) and the Technical University (TUM). Even though the interests don't overlapp extensively, the LMU is more interested in basic research the TUM more in application, there is still some sort of non-serious competition between these two about which of these is the "real" university of Munich. Despite of this our two teams got along just fine and collaborated on the Synbio day.
Munich itself, even though it has a lot of different places to offer, has many "central" places. If you want to go shopping: Kaufinger Straße, if you want to go to a park and lay in the sun: Englischer Garten, if you want to visit a natural history museum: Deutsches Museum, if you want to visit an art museum: Pinakotheken, if you want to study: LMU (just kidding). But you get the point. That is probably also the reason why we see our city as one of the largest villages in the world, because we always seem to meet people we know, because we all go the same places. And maybe someday we will meet you here ...
