Articles about the whole project

We found one big Media partner: Laborwelt.de which gave us the opportunity to post each week on their Facebookaccount to reach more people. All in all we posted on their site more than 10 posts, to keep the readers up to date. We reported on our progress in the lab, but also non our events in the human practice area. So take look at Laborwelt.de Laborwelt is a magazine that focusses on the Life-Sciences, and there especially on the new sceíentific methods. In the print version it is published every 3 months with a run of 20000. We published our short articles on their facebook page where they have almost 1000 likes.

At the beginning we were mentioned on jetzt.de, which belongs directly to the Süddeutsche Zeitung. They have mothly more than 400,000 usuers and 1,000,000 visitors, therefore it is the bigest online youth magazine in Germany. The article is [http://jetzt.sueddeutsche.de/texte/anzeigen/544866/4/1#texttitel here] we are on page 4. This article describes projects from young scientists. The page about us is calles The "Miracle"Yeast. Then ir describes who we are and what we are up to. We are the only iGEM- Team mentioned in this article. The others are mainly university teams.

The page biotechnoloie.de reported in the course of the Action Day on all iGEM Teams. [http://www.biotechnologie.de/BIO/Navigation/DE/root,did=153792.html?listBlId=74462] and had one page for each of them alone. This is [http://www.biotechnologie.de/BIO/Navigation/DE/root,did=153818.html ours]. Biotechnologie.de belongs to the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.

Last but not least our project was presented on the news page of our [http://portal.mytum.de/ccc/newsletter/studierende/2012_03/02/ university]. Besides that it was added to a newsletter which was sent to the students. The pictures with the traditionally bavarian clothing were made ba a professional photographer from the TUM.

Articles about the panel discussion

This is the article about our panel discussion. It was in the newspaper on the 20th of September. [http://www.merkur-online.de/lokales/freising/widerstand-gegen-gruene-gentechnik-waechst-weiter-2510648.html This article] gives a short summary about our panles discussion. It states that the green biotechnology is controversial, but the red biotechnology is rather accepted in Germany. But it also mentions that there where more supports of green biotechnology at the discussion and that most of the invited guests supported it too. One of the participants of our panel discussion wrote about his impressions. Peter Warlimont from the SPD wrote this [http://www.peter-warlimont.de/index.php?nr=46952&menu=1 article] He is rather sceptical about green biotech, bur honors the enthusiasm of the students and scientists.

Online appearance

Most of our publicity was done on the Internet, mainly on Facebook. The reachout of this social network is larger than any other. That's why we used it for contacting the populace. During our main working time in August over 9000 people were reached by our posts. Besides our homepage was an important information source and other iGEM teams followed us mainly on twitter. A blog completed our "Public Relation" work. We had around 1000 page views in 4 months. All in all it is to say that we were present on a broad range of social media to have a big reachout.

Facebook

We had a Facebook page were we had 88 likes. In oue best week (20th to 26th August) we reached 9046 people with our account. On the picture you can see a screenshot from our Admin-page where these facts are put together. Blue are the people we reached, green the people how talked about in and purple are our posts. You can see too that our weekly outreach goes straiht down, at the moment we have 412 "followers". But as you can see also the number of friends from friends is by a number of 23524. These are the people who coukd see our posts when they open up their facebook profile.

TUM-Facebook statistics.png TUM-Facebook age.png

On the picture above you can see our "reachout" splitted up ba gender and by the age. You can see that e reach more men in total and that the reachout between 18-34 years is the best. A reason for that can be that the useres of facebook are mainly this age. Female is the upper graph and the male are downwards.

Blog

Besides that we had a blog [http://tum-igem2012.blog.de/]

Statistic page from our blog

The statistics from this site are put together in this statstic, again a screenshot from the page. The Blog provided another opportunity to stay intouch, by getting E-mail-Updates. All in all we had 418 visitors from may to September and 961 page views, this shows that the visitors stayed uptodate and read our blog regularly. We honored this by writing a comment at least once a week.

Report on our Panel discussion

Before our panel discussion we did a lot of advertisment for this event and because of that published it as often as possible. Of course on our university pages [http://www.wzw.tum.de/index.phpid=189&tx_ttnews%5Btt_news%5D=418&cHash=966e4554a85d97bee8ae1d7d5c0c3d9] [http://www.wzw.tum.de/fachschaften/biowiss/home/] and on extern pages like this one. [http://www.m4.de/der-cluster/datenbanken/termindatenbank/details/8490.html?tx_biomdatabaseconnection_calendarevent%5Bis_search%5D= m4] is a Munich Biotechcluster combining Industry, Science, Medicine and the Cluster Management. On the website of m4 the Biotechnology branch of Munich is represented. Here you can see the same article posted on the website of the LMU, because they worked together with us on the action day [http://www.uni-muenchen.de/aktuelles/news/2012/aktionstag_igem.html] Of course we also created an Event on Facebook were the people could be invited. You can see this here.

Twitter

being consequent and choosing mainly online media for our representation we do have a twitter account . We have all in all 109 followers. Besides that we tried to really stay updated here and have 119 tweets during our project.
We followed mainly the other iGEM Teams to stay updated about their progress. So that we are informed about what they are doing and if they need any help or if we can join them by a human practice event. Besides that it was a way of communication between the teams and of course sometimes inspiration.
