Parameters of the equations
When we want to model a biological process, it is necessary to write the differential equation that model the system which requires a number of constants. Without the real value of the constants the system can not make any biological sense. These entries and the call parameters are a crucial element in the mathematical model made by us.
There are three principal sources for this parameters:
- The first one is the literature. There have been a lot of studies trying to search biological parameters, such as basal rate of production, kinetic constants, Monod's constants etc. But there are so many biological systems that only a few have been characterized and sometimes it is difficult find the parameters that we need.
- On the other hand we have the experimental way!!. If we make the right experiments with the biological system of interest we can know the parameters of the equations for the mathematical model. Unfortunately for the iGem project we needed the mathematical model to build the biological system so we couldn't perform experiments to know the constant of the differential equations.
- Finally there is the screening of parameters. Sometimes we don't have
