Due to the size of this year’s Jamboree, we have established two main hubs on the [[Jamboree/Campus_map | MIT campus]]. These hubs have been randomly assigned tracks to house during the course of the Jamboree. Hubs will have poster locations and associated presentation rooms according to their assigned track. All hubs will have locations that serve food during the Jamboree. Check your team box for information on where you should setup your poster, pick up lunch, and present.

Jamboree Handbook

The iGEM 2012 World Championship Jamboree will take place on November 2nd to November 5th, 2012 in Cambridge, MA!

Pre-Jamboree

World Championship Registration

Registration for the iGEM 2012 World Championship Jamboree will be open soon! All team member attendees of the advancing teams are required to register.

Note: If you are not a member of team advancing to the World Championship please be sure to read our policy on guest registration.

Project Abstract and Title

Teams were asked to submit an abstract of 100-150 words along with their project's title (maximum 15 words) prior to the Regional Jamborees. These abstracts will be used in the World Jamboree program, which provides a guide to the different topics that iGEM World Championship teams will be presenting. If you have made any changes to your project abstract or title, you will need to resubmit it to iGEM HQ (hq (at) igem . org). Please see the project abstract page for more details.

Documentation

Project: Each iGEM team's project should be documented on the iGEM 2012 wiki with enough detail to replicate it independently. Additional information about the team - their story, the rationale for the project, failures, successes, future work, etc. - is highly encouraged. Well-documented iGEM wikis and part pages will provide an incredibly valuable source of inspiration and resources for future teams.

Don't forget about your project's Data Page and be sure to include any work that you have completed since the Regional Jamboree. The wikis will freeze for World Championship teams, allowing no further changes, on October 26th. Judges will be viewing your wikis prior to the Jamboree, so make sure they follow the requirements and that your project is well documented.

Parts: iGEM requirements also state that all teams must properly document their parts on the Registry. The judging committee also decides what is considered proper part documentation so please see the Judging page for details. Be sure to update your part pages with any new information or work that may have been done since the Regional Jamborees. Remember, the success of not just iGEM, but all of synthetic biology, depends on the development of well-characterized, reliable, standardized biological parts that have been designed to be simple to use and understand.

Wiki Freeze

The wikis for teams advancing to the World Championship Jamboree will be frozen on October 26th at 11:59 EDT. Be sure that your wikis are up to date by this deadline as no further changes can be made. This is a particularly important deadline if your team has continued work on your project since the Regional Jamborees. Don't wait till the last minute!

The wiki freeze will not affect the [partsregistry.org] Registry or the wikis of teams that did not advance to the World Championship.

DNA Submissions

For advancing teams, if you have any parts the you were not able to send before the Regional deadline, you can submit them for the World Championship Jamboree. Your new submissions will be considered by the World Championship judges, in addition to your parts submitted for the Regional Jamborees, as long as they are received before the October 28 deadline. In addition to submitting your parts, you must also declare which of them are "favorites."

Please note that sending in additional parts is not a requirement. As always please be sure to add and document your parts on the Registry, and send them in pSB1C3! See the DNA submission requirements for more information about the DNA submission process.

Poster Requirements

There will be an official poster reception at the World Championship Jamboree held on Saturday, November 3rd. Locations will be assigned at random prior to your arrival at the Jamboree. You will be required to put up your poster by 9am on Saturday. Posters shall be NO LARGER than 48 x 48in (1.22 x 1.22m, A0 size is 0.841 × 1.189m) and each team may only put up ONE poster. There will be an informal poster session on Sunday as well, so please be ready to put up your posters again. For details on poster judging see the judging page.

Note: iGEM HQ is not responsible for providing any supplemental materials (power outlets, extension cords, tables, etc.) beyond the poster boards and push pins.

iGEM HQ will be asking for a copy of your poster in pdf format for our files. An iGEM volunteer will collect the pdf version of your poster at the beginning of your scheduled presentation session.

Presentation Requirements

Each registered iGEM World Championship team is to make a 20-minute presentation, followed by 5 minutes of questions/answer session. A laptop will NOT be provided to your team -- please make sure you bring your own laptop from which to display your presentation as well as any necessary accessories to connect the laptop to a projector cable.

iGEM HQ will also be asking for a copy of your presentation in pdf format for our files. An iGEM volunteer will collect the pdf version of your presentation at the beginning of your scheduled presentation session.

Software Tools Track

If your team is participating in the software tools track, you must make tools for use with standard BioBrick parts. Software tools must be available as open source projects on the iGEM servers. See more information on the Software Tools page.

General Release Form

The 2012 iGEM World Championship Jamboree will be a multimedia event: in addition to the team presentation videos that will be uploaded online, we will also be uploading photos and videos from the entire event so others can get an idea of what iGEM and the Jamboree is like. In order to comply with the law, every person attending the Jamboree must print, fill out, and bring a general release form with you to the Jamboree. When teams check-in during the Jamboree, they will need to have their general release forms ready.

Go to the Release form page for an online and pdf version of the form.

Hotels

iGEM does not provide travel or housing for any iGEM members. Participants are required to make their own travel and lodging arrangements. However, we have arranged for iGEM room blocks with special pricing at nearby hotels. All iGEM Block rooms are available on a first-come, first-serve basis so it is recommended that you make your reservations early. Remember the World Championship Jamboree officially kicks off on November 2nd and ends on November 5th, so please plan your stay accordingly!

Guests

Guests, family, and friends are welcome to come to the World Championship Jamboree. Each must register and pay the Jamboree attendance fee. There will be registration on site for last minute attendees but note that there is a $50 fee increase for late registrations. iGEM participants that have not advanced to the World Championship, but would like to attend, will be considered as guests.

As space is limited in presentation rooms and at the awards ceremony, preference will be given to iGEM World Championship team members. Extra seating will be available on a space available basis. Payment of the Jamboree attendance fee does not guarantee a seat in presentation rooms or at the awards ceremony.

Volunteer

There will be many opportunities to volunteer at the Jamboree. We would especially like to encourage past iGEM participants (iGEM alums) to volunteer to help during the Jamboree. Head to the Volunteer page to find out more information.
