Overall project

Our aim is the expression of zebrafish (Danio rerio) membrane progestin receptor (mPR) in yeast to reliably measure steroid concentrations in water by inducing bioluminiscence.

Endocrine disruption in the aquatic environment

Intersex fish have first been reported in UK rivers in 1978 just downstream of an sewage treatment plant (STP). Especially male young fish developed female sex tissue, so called ovotesties. What could have caused this unnatural occurrence?
